Let property landlords are trying different methods to try to stop potential break – ins in vacant properties over the christmas period.

However, landlords have been advised that this isn’t always a good idea. Almost 14 million people in the UK feel that setting up traps while their property is empty when it could actually make the burglars think that here is in fact no one there.

Traps that landlords have considered are trip wires and ropes that are put up around the house. Also greased doorknobs and icing up the drive way have been considered.

Matt Pernet of More Than has said: “Home security isn’t about employing tricks and gimmicks that belong in fiction, If you want to minimise the likelihood of a break-in while you’re away over the festive season then stick to the basics,”
